Internships
The Summer Internship Programme is your chance to experience the excitement of working for a leading hedge fund provider, and is designed for those who would like to develop their future career with Man. Over ten weeks, it offers a unique insight into Man, plus a clear understanding of how the hedge fund business operates as a whole.
For students who are strongly considering a future in the alternative investments arena, our internship could be a crucial step in planning your successful career. To be eligible – and to make the most of the opportunity – you should possess a sharp and decisive mind, an outgoing, team-based approach and the drive and commitment to succeed.
You can apply if you are a penultimate-year undergraduate or postgraduate student with an outstanding academic record. We welcome applicants from all degree disciplines, especially those with a keen interest in the financial markets.
The Internship experience day-to-day
Working in small teams alongside senior professionals, you will soon develop a network of contacts across the business. Seconded to one of the firm’s main areas – such as AHL, Man Investments, Risk, Marketing & Client Services or Technology – you will gain experience through a mix of project assignments and product training, augmented by networking events and regular evaluation and feedback.
You will quickly be exposed to a broad spectrum of financial disciplines – you might get involved in researching a particular energy sector or identifying subsector investment opportunities, to industry analysis and competitor benchmarking, econometrics analysis of macroeconomic/financial data or monitoring risk exposure.
The great advantage of an internship is that it gives you an opportunity to see how theoretical concepts work in practice, and to experience first-hand how the hedge fund industry functions day-to-day. In your project-work, you will have the freedom to be creative and try different approaches, and you will also have access to senior-level people across the business. It’s an extraordinarily privileged opportunity, and it is up to you to make the most of it.
At the conclusion of your ten-week term, you will be expected to present your findings, articulate your opinions and offer your solution to the issue in question. Active participation in these processes are a pre-requisite to success.
