It was the ambitious growth plans the attracted me to Man. I was interested in the Hedge Fund Business and, knowing that Man is a big player in this area, I joined in October 2007.

I started as an Analyst in the Hedge fund ventures team, looking closely at start-up funds and discussing my findings with the rest of team. It was great to see that my work was producing results early on and that clients were investing in our products through my analysis. From there, I joined Product Structuring for the second placement of my 18 month programme. Here I work with lots of different departments to prepare proposals for investors, gathering all the information they need to make decisions about our products. It’s hard work but I’ve learnt so much - from my presentation and communication skills to understanding more about the bigger picture at Man and how hedge funds operate.

Once my programme is finished I should also have passed my CAIA (Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst) qualification. Man have been very supportive with this – they’ve given me study leave to prepare for exams and have also run ‘knowledge sessions’ so I can keep up to date with the industry.

I’ll definitely be staying at Man after my programme has finished. The informal environment is really supportive and there’s a great level of challenge involved in the role to keep us on our toes! But most of all, I feel I’m learning a lot and know I’ll have good prospects to grow with a company that’s really going places.
